"Acoustic Guitarist"

30" x 36", oil on canvas.

This is #1 in my "Movement and Music" series, showing in the UVU Student Show at the Woodbury Gallery in Orem, UT April 3 - 30.

The mellow sounds of the acoustic guitar are portrayed by warm reds, oranges and yellows. Under the spotlight the guitarist cradles his guitar as he plays. His body sways back and forth, his right hand strums and picks rhythmically while his left hand slides up and down the neck of his guitar. His feet shift slightly, casting interesting shadows. In the background the other instruments are silent but for the tapping of a cymbal and a snare.
This is the whole painting.
"Flamenco Dancer"

This painting is 36" x 48", oil on canvas.

This is painting #4 in my "Movement and Music" series, showing April 3 - 30 in the UVU Student Show at the Woodbury Gallery in Orem, Utah.

As the dancer slides gracefully across the floor of an outdoor venue we see the movement of her body and dress. Her graceful arms go through their series of movements as the guitar players in the background play music for her. I love the rhythm and energy of flamenco dancing. I used dark rich colors to portray the seductive feeling of the dance and the music. The crowd claps as they enjoy the dancer's performance under the outdoor patio lights.

I have to say that this painting has the most incredible frame on it. It was handmade and is a perfect match. It's a dark wood with worn edges and a line of dimpled dots running around the painting. It's very Spanish looking. Thanks Rett!

Blue Dancers

This painting is 36" x 48", oil on panel.

It is #3 in my "Movement and Music" series, showing April 3 - 30 in the UVU Student Show at the Woodbury Gallery in Orem, Utah.

My hope was to show the way various dancers and musicians move to their respective music. I love watching dancers. I especially love the jumps and lifts. I remember watching Mikhail Baryshnikov dance when I was a child and feeling like he could fly. This painting tries to capture that sense of flight and grace, and the intricate layers of music that accompany them.
