Last weekend I had the opportunity to be in an art show at the
Twiggs & Moore Gallery inside the Tai Pan Trading store in Sandy. What a great place to set up an art show! It is such a beautiful store with gorgeous home decorating items everywhere that I loved adding to my art display. I had a great set up. I brought two of my pieces from my Music and Movement Series; the Flamenco Dancer and the Acoustic Guitarist.

It was so fun how many women stopped and admired the flamenco dancer. I told them "There is a little flamenco dancer in all of us, isn't there?" One lady had actually done latin dancing, so she enjoyed it more worthily than the rest of us wannabe's.

I also brought paintings to highlight my growing collection of paintings based on favorite photos. I had fun telling people the stories behind these paintings. Lots of people get paintings done of their family portraits. I guess that's okay... but what about those pictures you LOVE that just arent frame worthy for one reason or another? I took this great picture of my little friend Emma in the studio one day. It was a cute picture of her - not much for background. But when I got my hands on it and turned it into ART it became timeless. I'll never tire of this painting!

This next painting is of one of those LOVELY pictures they take in the hospital of you and your new baby. Did I say Lovely? Ha! I did NOT feel pretty that day. Although the photographer did a great job I will replace this photo with another as soon as she isn't so puffy and as soon as I comb my hair for a picture with her! BUT I love that it captured a moment. It had the same feel to me as the Gustav Klimt painting
"Mother and Child" that I love so much, so I decided to do my own Ferguson version of his painting with our family photo. The result, again, is to me TIMELESS. I'll keep this painting up her whole life... not just until the next photo is taken.

We were asked to work on paintings during the show and I was so thrilled! Just thinking of two days of painting without the baby crawling up my easel excited me! As I walked into the store in the morning I saw another artist with their paintbox walking in. I grinned this HUGE grin and said "Isn't this EXCITING?" Obviously more seasoned than I am and no doubt with lots more time to paint, he looked at me like I was crazy. "Um, I guess... " was all he said. I told him I for one, am thrilled to have two days to show my art and work on paintings. I hope it made him more appreciative! Geesh. And work I did! I was up and painting within half an hour. Others were still setting up, wandering around meeting the other artists, just plain dilly-dallying! Not me. I had my pallet out, my canvases up and I was PAINTING! Smile on my face.

This painting is one I'm doing for the
LDS International Art Competition I got a good start on it. It portrays a scene from the Book of Mormon, where a prophet named Alma cries "
O, that I were an angel!"It was fun describing what I am trying to illustrate to those who came by. Some were mormon, some were not. I'm excited about this painting after all the great reactions I got to its beginnings! I'll do a separate blog about this painting. There is a lot to it.
The other painting I am working on is one from the pictures I took of Dakota in her new tutu.

What a great example for my series this picture is... a lovely picture, with her brother sweeping the kitchen floor in the background! (Not that this isn't a memory worth preserving!)

Here is the beginning of the painting, and when I get done it will be a masterpiece! Actually, I'm thrilled with how far these paintings came over the weekend. DJ Jones, the owner of the gallery said I "Drew the crowd". I assume its due to the painting I was doing and all the little kids that flock to me. I think they can tell I teach kids. I love to talk to the little artists of the world! Oh, and here is a picture of one of my students who came to visit me...

Thanks, Emiko, for your support! You rock!
Overall, it was a great weekend. I made lots of new contacts in the art world, got some feedback on my work from regular folk, and left really enthused about what I am doing! I'm an ARTIST! And I love it.
